Here are todays plays:

7 Units Va Commonwealth +2 -105

It will be VCU's defense against Hofstra's offense in the Colonial Athletic Association! The Virginia-Commonwealth Rams (7-3 SU, 2-6 ATS) have a solid frontcourt with 6’-6”, 300-lb senior center Troy Godwin (10 ppg, 7 rebounds pg) and 6’-4” freshman Jessie Pellot-Rosa, and a quality backcourt anchored by senior point guard Domonic Jones (17 ppg). VCU is holding teams to 63 ppg and 42% shooting, and defense was a great strength for the Rams last season. It's been a tough two weeks for VCU, winning 55-54 at LaSalle as a dog and getting blown out by Georgia Tech before beating Middle Tennessee State, 66-61. The Hofstra Pride (5-6 SU) averages 69 points and shoots 44% behind scorers 6’-8” junior Kenny Adaleke (10 ppg, 8 rpg), 6’-7”, 260-lb junior center Wendell Gibson (15 ppg, 7 rpg) and 6’-6” senior Danny Walker (12 ppg). Hofstra is 1-1 at home and a year ago, VCU won both meetings with superior defense, though feisty Hofstra got the cover each time.

7 Units Creighton -3 -110

The Creighton Blue Jays (9-0 SU, 5-2 ATS) don't dazzle, but they just keep right on winning, mainly with defense. 6’-8” senior forward Brody Deren (11 points/6.6 rebounds per game) is the leading scorer with just 11 ppg, and works the boards with 6’-10” senior Joe Dabbert (5 rpg) and 6’-7” senior Mike Grimes (9 ppg). But they are shooting 47% as a team while outscoring foes by a 72-55 average (2-0 SU/ATS on the road). The Bradley Braves are 6-1 SU/4-0 ATS at home with 6’-4” senior guard James Gillingham (15 points pg), and newcomer 6’-7” sophomore Marcellus Sommerville (17 ppg, 8 rpg) has been a great addition. They did lose leading scorer 6’-3” senior guard Phillip Gilbert (20 ppg) with a knee injury; he won't play here. They didn't need Gilbert in a 52-42 win over Indiana State, but they could use him against powerful Creighton.

5 Units Virginia -16 -110

The Colonial Athletic Association meets the ACC and this will be a tough matchup for the William & Mary Tribe (4-6), who can't seem to catch a break. After getting hammered 70-55 at Pitt on Saturday, they have to travel to Virginia of the ACC. William & Mary is 0-5 on the road where the defense gives up 76.6 ppg and the offense musters just 62 ppg. William and Mary does have a decent frontcourt, with 6’-7” senior Adam Hess (20 points and 6 rebounds per game) and 6’-9” senior Zeb Cope (13 ppg, 7 rpg), but they don't match up well with taller Virginia. Virginia's Elton Brown (17 ppg, 7 rpg) is way too much for the Tribe at 6-foot-9 and 255 pounds. Virginia will also be looking to take out their frustrations on the Tribe after getting drilled at Home by Providence 84-69 SU. Virginia plays so poorly on the Road that any Home loss is a huge blow to UVA's season. Look for Virginia to play higher than their Home average of 82 points per game, greatly improving over their last game.

5 Units Utah U -14 -110

You have one team that plays defense (Utah), against another team that doesn't give a hoot about 'D'. Pepperdine (5-9) can run and gun with the best of 'em, averaging 77 points per game behind 6’-5” junior guard Terrance Johnson (15 ppg) and 6’-8” junior Glen McGowan (17 ppg). But this team is lazy on defense, allowing teams to shoot 47% and they give up 78 ppg, which partly explains their poor 5-9 against the spread record. Pepperdine is 1-6 SU/1-5 ATS on the road and just lost 91-65 at Colorado State!!! This lazy defense will hurt against a disciplined, unselfish Utah team (10-3) that is on a roll. The Utah Utes allow 39% shooting and just 45 points per game at home (7-0 SU, 4-1 ATS at home), with great balance led by 6’-10” senior Tim Frost (4.5 rpg), 6’-9” sophomore Andrew Bogut (12 ppg, 10 rpg) and 6’-4” senior shooting guard Nick Jacobson (14 ppg). Jacobson scored a career-high 28 points the last game to lead the Utes to a 70-60 win over Weber State on Saturday. Jacobson was practically unstoppable for the Wildcats as he shot 8-of-12 from the field, 7-of-7 from the foul line and 5-of-7 from behind the 3-point line. The Utes also got a solid performance from center Andrew Bogut, who scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. As a team, Utah made 56 percent of its shots from the field in the contest. This one could be ugly and a year ago Utah won 77-61 at Pepperdine!!!
